sick...

I'm sick.

Didn't make teaching CL1003 any more fun today, and I have to go to a conference all day tomorrow.

Blegh.

From the HBO website:

09.12.2005 | HBO renews the epic drama series Rome

HBO has renewed its epic drama series ROME for a second season, it was announced today by Carolyn Strauss, president, HBO Entertainment. Production of the 12-episode second season will begin next March, with the debut set for 2007.

"Although the first season of ROME is just underway, we're affirming our support for this exciting and ambitious series by preparing for a second season now," noted Strauss. "I'm delighted that critics and subscribers share our enthusiasm for the show."

The initial episodes of ROME have inspired legions of critical praise. TV Guide hailed it as a "feast for the eyes" and a "ripping good story," as well as a "shamelessly enjoyable historical romp." USA Today called ROME "as extravagant, enticing and chaotic as Rome itself," adding, "you may never want to leave." The Washington Post described the series as "ravishing and wickedly shocking," and "a feast for the senses that includes generous portions of food for thought."

I don't know why I'm so excited, because obviously I haven't seen it - given that the BBC haven't started showing it yet...

Huge deadline coming up, and a busy busy week for me. Still been finding time to watch Sci-Fi's new 'revisioning' of Battlestar Galactica - which is, I can happily say, truly awesome. Torpedo, if you're reading this - they even bring back Cain and the Pegasus in 'The Living Legend', but with a couple of... changes...

sleepy saturday afternoon

So here I am, on a beautifully sunny Saturday, and where am I? Yup, I'm here in la officina, and I'm failing once again to get much in the way of work done. It's not even as if I have the excuse of being hung over, because I'm not; I was out last night but not in any sense of being absolutely wasted (alhough shock and indeed horror: for the departmental wine thingy last night, there was actually half decent booze rather than the rancid Greek stuff they usually force us to drink. And which we do, like there's no tomorrow).

So anyway. Highlight of yesterday was probably Prof. Hine claiming during the question session of the research seminar 'I've got a mad idea'. It was hilarious. About as mad as, well, a point on Latin philology got, but for a second there I thought he was going to say something along the lines of 'Let's all get wrecked and smash some windows'. It was almost as good as when we found out he was doing a session for the STAGE day last year on 'magic' and we started envisioning him in a fez and tails; 'jus' like that!'.

I guess you really had to be there.
